Did another pixel piece and I'm actually pretty pleased with it.

Back in July last year I did a fighting game sprite partly for fun and mainly because I wanted to try a new look for an old 'wolfman' character of mine who seems to still be known as Feral even though that ain't his name. When designing this look for him I wanted it to be some kind of demonic state for him, not really man or wolf but somehow a form that mixes both without being an obvious werewolf look. Anyways a few days ago I came across a topic on a Pixel Art forum by a respected member of the group that he was doing a sequel to a little Flash thing he did that mimicked the character select screen of popular fighting games. Designed to show off some great character art from the members in the forum, he wanted to do a new version based on the artwork of the current members as the first one was from 2 years ago. This time though he wanted an actual in-game sprite of the character too. Figured I could use the sprite I had already done last year, and he agreed so I started drawing a sketch for the portrait. Heh, am writing too much. Point is I started the sketch on Tuesday, finished Wednesday. And is my largest completed piece which makes the speed more interesting for me as I'm usually slow as hell and take weeks and maybe months before completing something. And I tried out some ideas of shading and technique I had been thinking of.

Anyways here be the original sprite I did with its alternate palette (cos all fighting games do that mainly started so you could tell who was who if picking the same character but nowadays gives you plenty of color choice just for personal preference)...

The portrait...

Am pleased with this as I finally managed to get that sort of dark horror comic book style I didn't think I'd ever be able to do.

So yeah... am feeling sorta proud. It's an odd unfamiliar feeling...and I find it a lil disturbing...
