While in dorset on my 10 day holiday, I read Shadowmancer by G.P. Taylor. I know its meant for kids but to unwind from work I like something thats just fun without being overly taxing. So I went for G.P. Taylor who is also an ordained priest! Of course, this fact gave me extra interest to see what he'd written. Apparently he is compared to C. S. Lewis for his ability to write xtian themes into modern stories. Taylor also has huge knowledge of paganism and local folk law. Again, all areas interesting to me. Also, he couldn't find a publisher for his book. So, instead of sitting on his arse moaning about this, he sold his motorbike and published it himself. I like that in a bloke.
So I read Shadowmancer and finished earlier than i had hoped but there you go i guess! And he does write a griping yarn, full of sorcery, good overcoming evil and really detailed descriptions which turn the ordinary into the out of the ordinary.
And thats about all i can say about the book as I read it back in July and so can't remember the plot! I think it was something about a corrupt Priest , taxing the locals to death and trying to summon the devil to gain even more magical power. So it couldn't have been that good, like, say "His Dark Materials". Never the less, due to buying a few other books for work and wanting to get free postage, I have bought the sequel to Shadowmancer, 'The Curse if Salamander Street' and also Tersias.
So I'm now reading the sequel when i get the chance and remember to! I'm currently caught up in my costume making and work.
shadowmancer,
