OK, so I don't normally blog much about feminist issues, mainly because I feel like other people can say things better than I can. However, I can't let this one go.
You weren't rambly but very coherent. Sadly, I'm not at all surprised. Well, maybe a little surprised that it was the prosectuter and not the defence who took this path. But other than that, not surprised at all.
And apparently the morals of the men don't go out the window when it emerges that they're prepared to have sex with someone they've never met.
Blogging about these things is always good and helpful. The more we talk about assault and double standards, the hard it is to ignore them.

Excellent point. I can't add anything to that; it speaks for itself.
Also: ♥ and thank you. I always worry about posting this kind of thing given that most of what I say is "LOL Harry Potter" or whatever, so I'm really glad you think it's worth saying.
<3 I know what you mean, especially when posting on topics like this attracts douchebags like the one below.
And this post reminds me of something else: as a Muslim, sorry, hater of freedom, I get a lot of nonsense about how terrible it is that women are treated as second-class citizens, etc, but they will completely ignore and excuse sexism in Western societes. I'm sure if this took place in Saudi Arabia or something, everyone would be horrified.
(So sorry for the incredibly late reply, I've been sick. Boo to illness!)
BUT I ONLY REALLY HATE AMERICAN SPELLING PLEASE DON'T SEND ME TO GITMO :((((((
*hugs* Thank you and I'm sorry if that comment seemed to come about of nowhere. The issue has been on my mind recently. People get all riled up when I tell them I'm a feminist but they'll often be the first talk about how oppressed Muslim women are, etc. Not that we don't have our share of douchebags because we definitely do, but so does every group everywhere in the world. You're absolutely right that it's easier for people to criticise other people's cultures than their own and that doesn't help anybody.
And don't worry - I hear you completely. That's such a dirty rhetorical tactic that people use - effectively using feminism as an excuse to attack Muslims (despite not being feminist), or using anti-racism as an excuse to attack gay people or whatever (despite being racist) or whatever.
There was a horrible tabloid article a few years back that went on about how Muslims wanted to ban Holocaust education (which was absolute rubbish, naturally). It was all presented as "We can never forget these terrible atrocities, but these evil people want to deny it, blah blah blah". But the papers who reported it are known for their constant attacking of immigrants and Jewish people as well as Muslims. It was sickening.
Aaaaaaaand now I'm ranting again. Clearly this is my angry post. >_<
That could only be from the Daily Mail *eyeroll at them* And if it's not, well, I'm not surprised that there's more than one tabloid like that out there.
Rant away! I like that you have a specific post in which you can be angry :) And thanks for listening, it's always uplifting to know that there are some people who get it and who are just all-round nice.

You're completely right, of course. It's so much easier to critique other people's cultures than your own... so people do. *continues to rage*
