I loved the summary: probaby a bit too much, because you've now proved conclusively where JKR got her inspiration from. :D
What does 'anvilicious' mean? The only thing I could gather was that 'anvil' comes just after 'anus' in my dictionary, which must mean something, but I don't know what. :(
'Side-along apparition' is canon. HBP, to be precise. One of the bits she thought up from the top of her head, as until then everyone had to use Portkeys.
Anyway, this is lovely, as always. It is a good chapter, though it got me pretty confused at the time. Did you gather whether Reg Cattermole got out? I remember some controversy about it at the time. And I know Dumbledore was primarily an old man with a beard, but when you refer to Grindelwald as 'Dumbledore's boyfriend' I had to go 'Ahhh...' As for the Phoenix Crew, that's inspired, btw. Well, it all is.
I'm really looking forward to Carry On Camping. :)
First of all, MACRO = WIN and that kitten is the best kitten ever. :P
Anvilicious. In brief - being hit over the head with An Important Moral. (That site is dangerous, by the way. It's easy to lose days at a time reading it. Well, if you're me.)
One of the bits she thought up from the top of her head, as until then everyone had to use PortkeysThat hadn't occurred to me, but yeah, that's pretty weird. (Also makes you wonder why, say, Lily didn't grab baby Harry and apparate... well, other than, like you said, JKR only just made it up
( ... )
I am made of epic fail and will shortly be boarding the failboat, after which I shall take a job working on the failroad. ;D
and again, they survive purely out of sheer luck. what else is new?
That's one of the things that annoys me the most about the books in general. In book 1 they survive by sheer luck and in book 7, the same. There's a line in a couple of chapters about how their only achievement is not being dead yet. *Headdesk*
Side-Along Apparition is a real term, not just a fandom one.
And the one hour thing bugged me, too. I'm rereading DH for the fifth time and this time I'm post-it-noting everything I find interesting/my favorite quotes/stuff I don't get. The first half of the book (because I haven't finished it yet) is completely covered in post-its. Anyway, I noticed that it says they took an extra-large dose of Polyjuice or something.
You know what? Nevermind. That was at the wedding. It said that Harry took a large dose of Polyjuice, which I'm assuming is to make it last more than an hour. Which is stupid. I don't think a larger dose will make it last longer.
And Mrs. Cattermole kind of annoyed me. Once Umbridge and Yaxley are stunned the Trio keeps referring to each other by their real names and Mrs. Cattermole is still calling Harry Runcorn and... meh.
I feel bad for the guy Harry punched. If I recall correctly, he was sent flying across the room. And he was an older guy, too, wasn't he? I know he was definitely balding.
GTFO = get the fuck out. :D Generally used as an insult ("STFU and GTFO, n00b!") but I like it in general.
I suspect JKR was trying to pull the "extra large dose" explanation, like you say - but in that case, why have fake!Moody swigging from a hipflask throughout GoF? Why not just start the day with a polyjuice smoothie and be done with it? Dammit JKR and her annoyingly sloppy writing.
The Cattermoles were both kind of stupid, but I guess they were both stressed too. Or maybe I'm being too charitable and they were just stupid. A lot of wizards seem to be fairly stupid. They're certainly gullible.
I feel kind of bad for the guy that got punched too. It seems like Harry's strategy whenever things get out of hand is just to start throwing punches and curses left, right and centre, bellowing a lot and just all-round panicking and somehow he gets away with it. And fuck anyone who gets in the way! Harry's a hero! Harry Potter - fuck yeah!
