So, here we are. Happy new year an' shit!
I am feeling kind of mixed right now...
Heaven knows I'm miserable now
★ THE CAR, REFRIDGERON, IS DEAD. On Sunday we decided to take the, er, scenic route back from Cornwall, over Dartmoor. This killed the clutch. We ended up sitting in a freezing car for three hours, waiting for the RAC to come and rescue us. Then we paid out approximately a billion pounds in car hire in order to get home. It would cost more than the car is worth to fix it, so it's been written off. The whole experience sucked and I actually feel guilty and sad for abandoning our little car in the middle of nowhere. ;_;
★ I have a cold and, it would seem, a chest infection. I am coughing up things that I don't even fucking know what they are. I had five colds over the course of last year; let's see if I can beat this record! D:<
★ I renewed my paid LJ account. /o\ I feel like such a penis for this. Whenever LJ cocks up, which is fairly regularly, I always threaten to up sticks and move to DW and then I never actually do. I'm such a scab. Urgh.
Then again:
Reasons to be cheerful
★ I have received some truly fantastic presents and cards from my dear friends and family. Too many to name then all here, but my thanks and my love go to every one of you, and many more who aren't on LJ. I may post pics of some highlights, if I can find my camera cable. :P
★ New Year was wonderful. For the first time in several years, everyone could make it (in previous years, for example, my might-as-well-be-cousin Vicky couldn't be there because she's a nurse). Also, after two years trying out a different town, we were back in St Ives, which is where we've always had those NYE celebrations. It was ace and I will be providing a picspam of costumes ASAP. :P
★ My dear friend
lefaym, aka
lesley_hastings, has had her first original novella,
The Demon Catcher, published! I highly recommend it; the story is set in a clever fantasy universe and concerns a love affair between a demon hunter and a sceptical monk, and moreover, there are demons. The story is sexy and romantic but not cheesy, and there is enough adventure and plotting to keep you interested. I'm not just saying this because we're friends, either. :D Seriously, go and check it out!
★ Being ill is giving me a chance to catch up on LJ, as well as the TV I couldn't watch over Christmas/New Year due to clashes and things. As much as I hate having a cold, there is something pleasant about curling up with mugs of hot tea and watching telly while feeling ever-so-slightly sorry for yourself.

This picture of the recent partial solar eclipse - complete with silhouette of the International Space Station - is awesome in the purest sense of the word.
But enough of this. How are you?
