CHESS - No chance.  No luck involved.  No random elements.  Just plain, simple mental skill.  It is your mind against another person's mind, within the confines of the rules and pieces.  Black versus white, on a sixty-four square board.  The world disappears, and it is you and the board.   Have not played for years, and I regret it.

COMICS - I have been reading them for years, and go bi-weekly for what I refer to as "my fix".  I do not consider myself a collector; I have no idea what my collection is worth and do not care.  DC are the vast majority; most of my stuff from Marvel deals with Punisher and Dr. Doom.  Favorite one is Batman.

WWII - My grandfather was responsible for training bombadiers how to take control of the plane during the actual bombing run.  He was in California getting ready to ship overseas to Japan when the bombs were dropped.  He never spoke about it, and we never asked.  My mother was always fascinated with it as a result, and passed said interest on to me.  My knowledge of the Western theater is much greater than the Pacific, but I have reference material, so I can at least look something up.

GERMAN SHEPHERDS - My favorite breed of dog.  We had a huge big beast when I was born, and we lived out in the middle of a rural six acres of woods with a two hundred foot driveway.  My mother stayed at home with my brother and I until we were both in school, and forty years ago, having a dog like him was a huge help.  If you see a one hundred and twenty pound dog barking at you at the end of a driveway that long, you REALLY have to want to talk to us to go there.  And he would have died before anything got close to harm us.  I like Hunter, and he is an excellent dog, and I do not regret owning him.  But EVERY dog gets judged against a Shepherd in my mind.

JOHN LE CARRE - My favorite living author, regardless of genre.  The only author whose every work I have in hardcover.  Charlene is working on getting all of George's work in hardcover, but this guy?  I hunted them all out.

MAGIC - A collectible card game that I have been playing since 1994.  The only way I can describe it is Dungeons and Dragons on playing cards.  I cannot go into it too much because the rules are ridiculous, but my friends and I have spent countless hours killing one another in that game.

SHOTGLASSES - I collect them.  Ironic, considering that I do not drink, but I like them.  San Diego, Ireland (duh), NH, Maine, various other places.  The last thing I need to organize on my bookshelves.
