Harmonies - for brigits_flame

Feb 20, 2009 18:49

Title: Harmonies (imaginative, huh?)
Style: Um... not quite a sestina, but close (it needs another verse to be a proper sestina)
Warnings: Nope.

A/N: Written for week 3 of brigits_flame , for the prompt 'harmony'. I racked my brain for ideas, but the constraints of time and art exams rendered me unable to write anything until, ooh, two hours ago?
Enjoy!

There's a thousand words in every heart's beat
And every heart's beat beats in harmony
There's a sort of coldness to that eternal song
Each moment, holding in a broken breath
Waiting for three words they'll never speak
That harmony of waiting plays its tune

And in the night air hangs that frozen breath
A cloud of words that don't quite make a song
You hang there in the darkness of the tune
The chords, the notes, the final harmony
Inside and out, the throbbing, pulsing beat
Of those hearts, all waiting to hear her speak

The stars hang above; wait but never speak
They cannot speak, but clouds float by like breath
Veiling the darkened moon with harmony
Long-silent voices raise in joyous song
Marking the date with everlasting tune
And each and every heart will skip a beat

Wait, then, on that last silent harmony
Wait, then, on that unheard and lonely tune
Wait, then, on that sudden intake of breath
That silent song, that neverending beat
The stars and moon will raise their voice in song
Wait, then, on words you never thought she'd speak

What raises up the world in endless song?
And holds your tongue, and knows the time to speak?
What brings two hearts to beat a single beat
And make from ugly chaos a fair tune?
Plays your heart's strings in such soft harmony?
What power rises up to stop your breath?

Beyond this poetry, the truth of song
Beyond this is the reason for that beat
Pretentious words hold no such harmony.
