Leopard-Snow leopard comparison study

Oct 07, 2012 11:05

Focusing on head shape and structure today.

The most noticeable difference is that snow leopards have proportionally quite large eyes compared to the leopards. Other than that, they are physiologically very very similar. Note that the leopard has VERY short fur, and the snow leopard has quite long fur. Considering that, and looking at things like the cheekbones and the overall length of the face and muzzle, the structural similarity is very striking.

I am under the impression that the same base could be used for both cats, as long as special attention to fur pile and proper shaving was done, and that the eye area was made to accommodate with minimal structural change both sizes of eye blank.

That said, I believe this will be numero uno in my adopt a project commission batch.

Update: Here's a skull comparison
(Leopard on left, snow leopard on right)

If anything, the snow leopard has a smidgen more of a brow ridge, which would be easily added with a tiny amount of foam. The top and rear of the head would be governed by the human head inside, and would necessarily be closer to a hybrid between the two to facilitate a good blend into an anthro form. There's a limit to how blocky a head can look without being oversized or looking odd attached to a human body.
