I'll get the big news out there...

I HAVE A NEW CAR!!! Its a 2004 VW Passat, 1.8L Turbo, 4Motion all wheel drive, leather seats and manual transmission.

Ok, now that we've gotten that out of the way, I can tell you about what lead to the purchase.

Originally, we were looking at 05 impala, but consumer reports warned us about the brakes. I'm glad it did. On the first test drive, the impala's brakes were very soft. Went around a corner and it really didn't want to slow down to yield. Plus the cosmetics weren't really up to par.

There is an Impala at CarMax that D had been wanting me to take a look at. It was white, but I was willing to look at it. So we drove to Laurel and went to look at it. We took it for a test drive and it too had brake issues. Any time you tried to stop, it would shake and vibrate. The sales guy tried to tell us it was just rust from being out in the weather. D refused to believe him. I'm like, "alright, if its rust, stopping a few times will clean it up and it will stop." It didn't. It felt to me like the rotor was warped.

So we got back to the store and told him to have a mechanic look at it. While he was taking it to be serviced, we looked through the inventory on their computers. So D's looking at model names she recognizes, happens to have the manual option selected, and selected the VW catagory. It brings up this Passat with 4motion. I mistakenly think its the triptronic transmission ( VW version of push button shifting on the steering wheel) and say we should look at it. About that time the sales guy comes back and tells us that the rotor had some variation on them, and that the mechanic is going to turn the rotors to repair it. He said it would take at least an hour and asked if we wanted to see more. So we told him about the Passat. He took us out to it, and it felt comfortable when I sat down. Once I was allowed to drive it, IT WAS ALL OVER. I shifted into second, gave it some gas and it just LEAPED forward. The turbo kicked in and it was flying. After that, it was a short test ride, and I was grinning from ear to ear and was sold. D knew it.

A bit of talking and we decided to take it home. D loves the safety features... 6 airbags, all wheel drive, and stability control. I love all of it. I don't even know where to begin.

A hour later, we were signing papers and it was out the door to do a final check and take it home.

There is almost no road noise at 80 mph and it accelerates easily at that speed.

Pictures will come soon.

I HAVE A NEW CAR!!!
