All this Snowflaking has gotten me thinking about all the stuff I loved as a child and, more specifically, the very first thing I can remember being seriously into.
I was about 4 or 5 and remember so very little about it, but the tiny bit I do remember is so vivid that it still gives me a faint sort of thrill of excitement. I would love to know what the series was called. It was animated and set in some time period or universe were the people carried and used the kind of swords one might fence with. The main character was young girl with short dark hair who I think might have been a princess, but who went on adventures as a 'boy' or who everyone mistook for a boy. She wore a cape and carried a sword and fenced like a pro and moved like an acrobat (jumping off high balconies and landing on her feet kind of thing). I really, really wanted to be her. But my friends all thought the show was dumb so I never had anyone to share it with.
I went on to love so many swashbuckling type things and they all have a special place in my heart, but I feel a little sad that I can't better remember my first.
