I just got back from Tokyo, since Boy couldn't get time off to come see me. (Loser.)
I bought him Kingdom Hearts II (for his birthday), which he immediately pounced on with fanboy glee.
He gave me two Bruno and Boots books for my birthday. I read one on the train back and man. I mean, I *loved* Gordon Korman's "I Want to Go Home" as a kid. I read it so many times it was literally falling apart. And then when I read and adored
rageprufrock's Bruno and Boots fics and realized there was a whole other series out there by Gordon Korman I was *so tempted*. (And hello he started writing this series in *seventh grade*. People are not allowed to be that talented. Not even Canadian people.) But I thought that his humor wouldn't be as funny now that I'm older. Man, was I wrong. I was laughing out loud like a crazy gaijin on the train reading "Beware the Fish!" Now I must acquire and devour the entire series. Immediately.
I also read Robin Hobb's "Assassin's Apprentice" on the train. (Hah, traveling is the only time I read books.) One down, eight to go! Mom got me like all of them for my birthday or Christmas. I'd read about the series on a slashy books rec list, but I'd never read any Robin Hobb before, so I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised that I really like this series and have immediately started the second book.
The Big Accomplishment in Tokyo was my massive computer upgrade. Boy took me to Akihabara and I got a 320 gig internal hd, a case to turn an internal hd into an external hd, and two gigs of RAM. And then Boy made it all work with his magic skillz. ALL TREMBLE BEFORE MY COMPUTING POWER! Now my total storage capacity is 520 gigs. I never have to burn another fanvid!
Boy and I were meeting
nesuphyn and
gramarye1971 (who had just flown in that very day for a visit) for dinner at the traditional meeting place of the Shibuya Hachiko statue, when we ran into
liebschen escorting
mysticfive who had arrived a few days earlier. Much merriment, izakaya, and karaoke ensued, though I was feeling a bit too under the weather to do more than be a Phantom to
mysticfive's Christine.
Boy and I watched "V for Vendetta," and I quite enjoyed it, although I don't think V was "in love" with her - that seemed a strange, unsupported, and Hollywood place to go with his character. Also her hair stayed short for much too long unless she had been shaving it herself. Of course the film sparked a round of me madly brushing up on lots of English History in one of my wikipedia bouts. For one thing, I think I've finally mastered the Stewart Sandwich! (JamesCharlesCharlesJames)
paranoid_ninja, the wikipedia addict, pointed me toward the rather small
Due South Entry, entreating me to "flesh it out." I am much too lazy to do any such thing, although it's true that it is somewhat pathetic compared with the new BSG articles, or Stargate, which has its own wiki.
He then proceeded to inform me that the article for Do As Infinity is twice as long as the article for molecular genetics, which I find wildly amusing and highly indicative of wikipedia users' priorities. After that he bombarded my brain with random facts about CHIMERAS and VANISHING TWINS, which are when people absorb their twins in utero (and lead my thoughts to icky places with Laurell K. Hamilton's Goblin King). Also he felt compelled to tell me all about all the DISGUSTING PARASITES that people can get and are incurable and BEHAVIOR-MODIFYING, like
this one, which might cause schizophrenia and possibly attract you to cat pee or moving vehicles.
GEE THANKS FOR THE PARANOIA, JOHN.

You should learn to use your wikipedia powers for Good, not Evil. ::dodges hypochondria::
On Thursday the new school year is starting, so I am trying to enjoy my little vacation time. And finish the Looming Task of making tons of dvds for my family.
