Gisou no Fuufu

Speaking of Yukawa Kazuhiko, I can't believe I didn't post about Gisou no Fuufu??

I had SO MANY emotions about this drama omg.

I really enjoyed the premise, again: a gay man and a strong woman who were involved in college have a sham marriage now they're in their 40s.

One thing I love about Yukawa is that he doesn't turn gay people into caricatures. And this drama is full of queer people portrayed as real people! The male lead especially did a good job with his sensitive portrayal.

And the drama has many HILARIOUS moments.

But the ending - MyDramaList reviews agree with my MIXED EMOTIONS.

I applaud the idea of Hiro and Chouji as a couple who has a non-standard (queer) relationship. I think it is valuable to show that people can be happy in non-standard relationships with or without sexual compatibility.

BUT

I wish they had done that WITHOUT the second leads.

The second leads just ruined the ending for me. Both Hiro and Chouji had ended their sham marriage to each other and been committed for some time to a woman and a man respectively (gay relationships). Both seemed happy!

Then they meet again and break up their happy relationships (one with a SMALL CHILD) to get together.

I just felt so bad for the second leads I couldn't fully root for Hiro and Chouji to be happy - and that's a writing fail.
