Hello, dear anon! Thank you for offering to write/draw one of my favourite less-appreciated characters :-) If you would like some guidelines while working on your assignment, I've included some thoughts on my requests in this post, as well as my general likes and dislikes.
Likes: I enjoy gen as well as shippy fanworks of any permutation, although I think my requests for this exchange are particularly rife for femslash as opposed to het/slash (you'll note the general dearth of male characters). I like family relationships, worldbuilding, and
interesting AUs. I also like works that showcase a character's strengths or shows them being happy/having a good time. Just something that CELEBRATES the character, you know?
Dislikes: I'm not really here for grimdark interpretations or a lot of violence and gore. Sometimes it can work for a particular canon/character, but if you could err on the side of caution that would be great :-)
Marvel 616 (Kamala Khan, Jessica Drew)
The new Ms. Marvel is one of the few titles that I keep up with as it's released, and I find it completely charming. Kamala is such a delightful character, and just sort of inherently kind and brave, you know? One of my favourite things about her is her fannishness and the enthusiasm that comes with that, so I would love to receive art or fic that showcases her identity as a fan! Anything would be great, but if you're looking for inspiration, perhaps something about her fan life and her superhero life colliding?
I've read Spider-Woman's origin story and Agent of SWORD, plus some Avengers stories that she's part of, but honestly my Jessica Drew knowledge isn't very comprehensive. You know how a character just clicks for you sometimes? Spider-Woman is like that for me (my
tumblr tag for her is the longest I have for any comic book character). I'd love to see her in something light-hearted and fun.
Pacific Rim (Vanessa Gottlieb, Jazmine Becket, Alison Choi)
I loved this movie (I even own the movie novelisation, which I can't say about any other film) and I would love to see any of these awesome ladies have their stories fleshed out. We don't know much about any of them, so as a writer you have a lot of wiggle room. One possibility is to expand their backstories! How did Vanessa get into modelling, or meet her husband? What was Jazmine doing while her brothers were piloting jaegers? Why did Alison join the PPDC? Another angle is to write and AU where they have a more central role in the action of the film. If these women were in the shatterdome during the events of the movie, what would they be doing?
Orphan Black (Charlotte Bowles, Gemma Hendrix, Oscar Hendrix, Kira Manning, Grace Johanssen, Helena)
The characters I've requested in this fandom are roughly sortable into two groups: mini-clone club, and Helena and Grace.
For Helena and Grace, I'm both intrigued by their individual characters and really interested in their dynamic. Helena was great as a villain in season one, and then her redemption arc/humanization in season two was done so well; I'd love to see her continue to heal and create healthy relationships. And as for Grace, I was so thrilled to see her escape from the Proletheans and am excited to see her explore her newfound freedom. I think these two have the potential to develop a strong relationship - either shippy or as close friends/pseudo-family.
Then there's mini-clone club! Kira has gotten some actual development on the show, but I'm still open to more. Charlotte is probably going to play an important role on the show as well, but season three is still far on the horizon and I'm really excited to see her meeting more of her extended clone family, especially the other members of mini-clone club. As for Gemma and Oscar . . . they've only really shown up as background to Alison's life. I'd love to see something that highlights them as their own people, or brings them into the larger storyline.
Supernatural (Becky Rosen, Cassie Robinson, Charlie Bradbury, Jessica Moore, Claire Novak)
While I'm not current with this show anymore, it still holds a special place in my fannish heart, and as you can see there are a lot of characters I never got enough of.
Something I particularly enjoyed in Supernatural was the worldbuilding. A lot of it was centralized (understandably) around Sam and Dean, but I would love to see some of that applied to some of the underutilized lady characters. What if Dean had brought Cassie into the hunter world or Jessica hadn't died in season one, what would have happened once they knew about the supernatural? What is Claire's life like after everything that happened to her, where does she fit in? (Is she a hunter now?) Becky and Charlie (both favourites of mine) have had more actual interaction with the show's world, but more is always better. Especially regarding the Supernatural books fandom, which could be very fun to explore!
PS, if you're into it? I looooove femslash in Supernatural. Just throwing that out there.
Teen Wolf (Talia Hale, Melissa McCall)
I'm going to start this section off by saying that I really ship these two. In an AU where Talia never died, or where she somehow comes back from the dead, I would be so into seeing these two women together somehow.
That said, I'm genuinely interested in either character on their own. Melissa seems like such a kind, hardworking person who deserves some love, you know? Maybe a day off, maybe a nice massage or something. I'd like to see her happy. For Talia, I'd ideally like to see her Not Dead, but more specifically, what I enjoy about her character is what a great alpha she seems to have been. Derek loved and respected her a lot, and she seemed pretty badass when we saw her in "Visionary".
