Happy (largely) belated holidays! Hope everyone's been having a good few weeks. Anyone got any exciting New Year's plans?
I have been spending 90% of my internet time reading Yuletide fic since the archive went live on Christmas morning. ALMOST DONE. (I mean, I haven't started on Yuletide Madness yet, but those fics are shorter, right? Um). I'll probably throw out some recs next week, if not earlier. There were a lot of stories to my taste.
I want to point out my gift, though, before authors are revealed.

Zerophilia (2006)Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Luke/Michelle (Zerophilia), Luca/Max (Zerophilia), Luke/Max (Zerophilia), Luca/Michelle (Zerophilia)
Characters: Luca (Zerophilia), Luke (Zerophilia), Max (Zerophilia), Michelle (Zerophilia)
Summary: Max says he feels the same way about Luke as he feels about Luca, and Michelle says the same. But Luke doesn't know if Max or Michelle is just so used to being a Z, so used to knowing what they want, that neither of them notices that it's different.
It's an introspective fic that is SO PLAINLY written with the hope that I would like it - I mean, Yuletide is a gift exchange so of course the author would want me to like it, but there are lots of references that suggest the author was writing based on my letter - that I sort of feel extra touched and just want to reassure the author that I adore it :-D
There's something about Zerophilia that's really ripe for Thinky Thoughts, and part of it is the different ways Max and Michelle act even though they are the same person. Does this have to do with being viewed as different people by the people around them? Is it a reaction to gender expectations? Anyway, my author tackled the idea of dual identities and I couldn't be happier.
(My recipient hasn't commented yet, but they did leave a kudos, so . . . ?)
I have been so satisfied by Yuletide this year, and read so many fics in interesting fandoms I don't normally think of, that I'm already eagerly anticipating next year's exchange. I already started my list of potential fandoms to nominate next year (inspired by one of the books I picked up via Christmas giftcard): Cryptozoology RPF. I just need to remember to brainstorm a character list . . . and decide whether or not to include John Hodgman in it. Hey, he does list cryptozoology as one of his areas of expertise, you know.
