Fic and jobs and stuff

In RL news:

- I applied to a couple jobs around town on Tuesday (retail and food industry positions, you know the sort). I have spent the last few days since then experiencing a jolt of anxiety every time the phone rings. Good job, self.

- Today I went to talk about volunteering at one of the continuing education campuses in my county. I need to get a police check, but the volunteering will probably happen. The benefits of this non-paying position are two-fold: 1) I'll get actual experience in a classroom environment, which is useful for resumes/applications/confirming whether or not I can handle teaching; 2) this might lead to a (very part-time) paying position with the school as an ESL support worker. Which is theoretically my future field, you know, if this experience doesn't completely sour me on the whole thing.

In fandom news:

- I am participating in spn_jimmynovak's current Novak Fest, and the prompts were recently assigned. My recipient gave me five prompts to choose from, but none have jumped out at me so far . . . so I just sort of started writing three of them. Whichever one becomes a complete story first wins, I guess :-P

Looking at my assignment (and browsing through the other sign-ups), however, I noticed that the prompts in this fest tended towards darker and/or more serious ones. When you look at Supernatural canon that doesn't seem unusual, I suppose, and I'm not deep enough in the vastness that is SPN fandom to say if it's common or not. I'm totally in SPN fandom for the humour, though. Guys, SPN is funny.

(And fucked up and too many people die in it and the Winchesters are Epically Tragic, granted.)

- Anyway, in other fic exchange news, I think I've settled on one of my Yuletide requests this year: Zerophilia (that's the Wikipedia article, but I don't fully agree with some of the points in that plot summary. Also, for pete's sake, does no one in this fandom know the difference between "sex" and "gender"?). I watched it on a lark because the summary looked interesting, and at first I wasn't sure how I felt about how it dealt with sexuality and gender identity, as well as some other less significant things. However, the more I watch it (over ten times by this point, btw. In a month. I need a job) the more I like it. I wish I had someone to discuss it with in more depth, too. I might write another post dedicated solely to it, later.

I would also take zerophiliac AUs in other fandoms. They already exist in Inception and Harry Potter flavours. That's not really Yuletide territory , though.

- I'm also contemplating requesting someone make Sorority Boys less offensive, but I haven't decided whether or not that would be a waste of a request.

- The Polyamory Big Bang is running this year!
