Look at me, I'm still here

Wow, the weather has been just beautiful this week. All of a sudden I don't need my coat during the day, and it's starting to smell like Spring. I hadn't really realized just how bored I was getting of Winter.

University is in the final stretch - final exams are in April. I've decided to look for a summer job rather than take classes during the holiday, since we're probably going to visit family in August. It's so much easier to leave a job mid-August than to miss classes right before an exam period, you know? Plus, y'know, money. Now I just need to find work ...

So, last weekend, I saw Watchmen with my dad and brother. We went on a Sunday afternoon, at the local theatre. There were maybe ten other people in the theatre, which is about what you would expect at 1pm on Sunday, especially with a niche film like Watchmen.

I was really impressed with the adaptation. Rorschach, for example, was dead on. As soon as I heard his voice I knew he'd be perfect. All the details that they kept in were great, I mean, they even kept in the newstand and the kid with his pirate comic. Rorschach popped up with his End Is Nigh sign all over the place, and Bubastis was in the Karnak scenes even though, if we're being honest, a lot of people probably had no idea why there was a big purple lynx in the movie.

Mostly I was pleased with how they balanced plot and time constraints. Obviously there was a lot in the graphic novel that never made it into the film, but they kept everything they needed to make a coherent plot while throwing in a few other gems. Still, I wish they had included the scene where Daniel admits that the costumes turn him on. It's just not explicit enough in the film :-P

As for the music? Yeah, I liked it. It was hilarious, true (Hallelujah *snicker*), but in a good way! I was glad to be laughing!

Speaking of music ... Well. If you've read the graphic novel than you might remember a point when Adrian is being interviewed and lists some of the music he likes. Someone tracked them down and they are, uh, interesting. Some are good, and others are just weird.

As for Adrian! I am thoroughly amused by movie!Adrian, villian though he may be. And then there's this:

Confirmed by the actor as 'proof' that movie!Adrian is gay. Uh, not sure why it's on the same disk as his dastardly plan, but funny is funny is funny.

I think I lost my train of thought :-P Maybe I'll have something more to say tomorrow ... after I watch it for the fourth time (What? I like it!).

Immature Moment of the Day: I'm in Language Studies, right? And we're talking about language in the construction of national identity, when an odd definition of "community" came up: "A deep, horizontal comradeship regardless of class ... differences." I probably don't have to explain what 'deep, horizontal comradeship' made me think of *sigh*
