I enjoyed The Libertine very much. It was a very different kind of movie for Johnny Depp. He really brought John Wilmot back to life. He read Wilmot's poetry as, I feel, it is intended to be read. I'm proud of him, and, as always, he made me lose myself in the story and the characters. Wonderful, wonderful performances from all the actors. I can't tell everyone enough how brilliant John was.
I really enjoyed Samantha Morton's character. My favourite part of the whole movie was when Elizabeth tells Wilmot that he may "buy [her] slit for a night" but that he can't take away what makes her special.
Johnny made me cry once again. He and James Marsters are the only actors who can make me completely break down emotionally in an instant. It's the natural way in which they deliver their performances; you totally lose yourself in them.
Also, I fell in love with Wilmot when he lost control of his bladder and began to cry. Don't think that I'm into watersports or anything. I just enjoy watching a man being completely devestated and broken. Probably why I enjoy h/c fics so much.
In the end, I had to say, "Yes, Wilmot, I like you now... but then again, I liked you from the beginning." He wanted to love life so much that it killed him. Sad, really.
