The Hills of Concrete Lies: a 15 Minute Ficlet.

I'm giving myself fifteen minutes before I teach my next class to write a fic. And go!

Title: The Hills of Concrete Lies.
Author: fenderlove
Rating: PG/Worksafe.
Summary: Spike and Angel are on a quest.

The moon hung high and clear over the mountains, casting deep shadows in the close copse of trees. Angel and Spike carefully made their way through the thick woods. Even with their vampiric sight, neither wanted to accidentally trip and stake himself. An inglorious end to an inglorious adventure.

Spike tugged his tattered cloak back onto his shoulder, "I can't believe you got us lost."

"And I can't believe you won't shut up about it," Angel retorted, swapping his broadsword from one shoulder to another for emphasis.

"We probably shouldn't have taken that left turn back there," Spike said, side-stepping a cluster of rocks as they came into a clearing.

With the moon above them providing ample light in the open area, Angel attempted to gain his bearings, "The dwarf back the cave said to turn left at the fallen elm, so that's what we did."

"That wasn't an elm, you pillock. It was an oak," Spike rolled his eyes. "And, in any case, we're still bloody lost. What is it we're looking for again?"

"The Hills of Concrete Lies," Angel replied solemnly.

Though he tried to stop himself, Spike burst out laughing, "The Hills of what now?"

Connor sighed from behind his Dungeon Master's screen, "The Hills of Concrete Lies... It's what the campaign module says they're called."

"Sounds like a load of rubbish," Spike picked up a few of his D-20s and rattled them around in the palm of his hand.

Angel, though not wanting to admit that he was getting into playing Dungeons and Dragons, said, "Well, you agreed to play, so what do you want to do?"

"I want to cast something," Spike responded, looking over his character sheet.

Connor raised an eyebrow, "Why do you want to cast? There's nothing attacking you."

Spike thought it over for a moment and replied, "I knew I should have been a Paladin instead of a Bard."

Connor shook his head, "Your alignment is Chaotic Good. You would have made a terrible Paladin."

"Says you," Spike rolled his dice across the forest map, "I roll for Counter Song."
