Canoodling.
Pressing against the gentle contours of Spike's body, Angel relaxed enough to let sleep begin to take over his overwrought mind. Spike was turned on his side with Angel spooning behind him. The brunette's nose was just behind Spike's ear, inhaling the smaller man's soft, clean scent. Spike's fingers lazily toyed with Angel's hands as they rested on his stomach. "Snuggle," "cuddle," and "nuzzle" were not in the vampires' vocabulary, but Angel and Spike enjoyed them all the same after a hard night's battle.
The hours after midnight had been spent battling a large nest of vampires that had roosted in the laundry room of a condominium highrise near Angel and Spike's apartment. By the time they were dusting off the remains of the squatters, a steady rain had settled over Los Angeles. Spike pulled his leather coat tight around himself as he stayed shoulder-to-shoulder with Angel as they traversed the short distance home, trying to stay underneath the awnings of businesses they walked passed.
The sky was beginning to lighten slightly as dawn approached through the haze of fog and storm clouds. The little Vietnamese market next to their apartment complex was opening for business for early morning commuters and shoppers. Delicious aromas of cooking meat and fresh vegetables made Spike push Angel inside the market and sit at the counter. The lady who ran the store was familiar with both vampires and made sure to have a steady supply of blood for them to purchase. She gave a little wave as they sat down before placing two large bowls of piping hot phở in front of them. Soon, they were joined by other patrons hoping to grab a warm, quick breakfast before heading out to endure the chilly rain again.
Angel had a small smile as he watched Spike empty half a jar of chili paste into the already near-boiling soup. The blonde was slurping down the rice noodles, chunks of meat, bean sprouts, and fatty broth before Angel had even gotten his chopsticks out of the wrapper. Due to his clumsy chopstick skills, Spike had to keep his face close to the bowl as he shoveled second and then third helpings into his mouth, small droplets of rainwater dripping off the end of his nose.
As they reluctantly ventured back into the brewing storm, the vampires were not empty-handed. The market owner had given them a small bag of bahn bao, savory pork and egg buns, to take home. Seeing the silly yet sexy way the water ran down Spike's sharp cheekbones and awkwardly shot off the end of his chin, Angel shrugged off his jacket and held it up over both of their heads. Spike seemed surprised at first and, with an amused expression, smooshed himself closer to Angel and the shelter of his jacket.
Once home, both men stripped out of their wet clothes, leaving them on the mat by the door, stashed the golden-glazed bahn bao in the fridge for a later snack, turned on the electric blanket on their bed, and went to shower. As they stepped under the spray of the showerhead and a pleasant steam began to fill their small bathroom, Angel and Spike indulged each other with sensual caresses and somewhat sloppy kisses. Angel's tongue felt slightly tingly, tasting the ghosts of far too much chili paste, as it brushed over Spike's. No words to spoil the mood were said between them; the only sounds were soft moans and sighs as they enjoyed the warmth that spread across their skin and the feeling of being intimately close with one another.
After toweling off, the pair eventually made it into bed and curled up together, exhausted but warm and sated. There would be no sex on that night, but their bodies tangled as they switched positions until finally arriving at the most comfortable one as was always their regular sleeping custom. Spike looked over his shoulder at Angel, puckering his lips for one last kiss before they both drifted to sleep. They would wake to bruises and snark, but just for today, amidst the thunder and rain that almost drowned out the noise of the waking city, this was as close to perfect as it got, and neither vampire needed a word for it.
The End.
