the past returns...to bite you in the ass

over three years since ive seen him
and out of no where there he is
in rancho
like old times
what are the chances?

i turned my back at first
praying he wouldn't reconize my face
or voice
or eyes
or smile

but deep down i knew that he already saw me
i could feel his eyes burning into my back
so i turned around
immediatley found his eyes
we didnt break eye contact for the longest time

i think the expression on my face
gave everything away
because his did

everyone standing around
looking at us
whispering
"do they know each other"
guess we were being that obvious

i broke the eye contact first
i couldnt take it anymore
then he left
without a word
and i was left
with the explanations

people asking
"do you know him"
"what was that all about"
"he looked like he was about to cry"

i didnt answer anything
my mouth was so dry
i could barely swallow

i have a feeling i will be seeing a lot more of him
and i have a feeling that eventually
we will have a talk
about the past
unfinished matters
and im not sure if im ready for that
