Memorable trip

Best memories:
-Discovering that my Thai friend (and now fiance) could understand English well enough to have deep conversations about any number of subjects, and was even able to process American humor. She spent enough time in the UK that she thinks in English now, apparently-- luck me!
-Angkor Wat- incredible ruins, lots to see. Get a guide, don't worry about the fact that its in Cambodia and have a great time. See it as the sun comes up.
-Food from three different countries prepared every way you can imagine. Build yourself up slowly, though-- you really have to be ready for the SomTam in Laos and Thailand... it LOOKS so innocent...
-Jumping from rock to rock along the waterfalls of Laos. Reminded me of my hikes along the rivers and bays of Maryland as a child. I thought I was good, but my diminutive date danced from stone to stone like a billy goat, light as a feather and quick as a sprite. At one point I came up a couple of inches short on a particularly long traverse, at the point where the rapids were most treacherous; she grabbed my hand and kept me from being swept away with a strength one would not have thought possible in a 4'10" woman with arms as slender as a child's. She is truly amazing.
-Ringing in the New Year in Bangkok at club Narcissus. What a party!

There really is nothing like traveling with a native guide, I heartily recommend it. If she happens to be clever, sensible, multi-talented, funny and gorgeous and happens to think that you're not so bad yourself it just couldn't be more perfect.
