First off, A WILD DVD HAS ARRIVED ON MY DOORSTEP. It was like God WANTED me to have this. I got to my apartment mailbox at 5:55 and found an undeliverable item receipt (I have to ask to get my package back by 6 PM to get it that same day, otherwise I'll have to wait til the next day). I was about to run upstairs, when at that exact moment a Sagawa ( Read more... )

All of the historical figures from the original event are in there (the full list is here) with the same relationships.

Almost every schoolchild here must know about this event for them to make a play out of it that doesn't explain the event at all really, and I had to do a little bit of research before going or I KNOW I would've been lost :P

With that said, while it has all the same figures and works on a historically accurate base, it implies that what is written in history books didn't really happen that way, and throughout the show tells of a different side (ulterior motive on some figures' parts) of the event.

In other words, you'd want to be at least passingly familiar with Honnouji no Hen first and at least know who was friends with whom, who was an enemy of whom, before watching (something the Japanese audience was already familiar with).

I actually learned a lot through this--enough to outsmart my own students playing a game in class when I knew the answer to a question a short while after seeing this play (it was something like, "What was the name of the incident where Oda Nobunaga committed suicide?" XD)

Overall, it's a play--of course it's for entertainment primarily, but it assumes the audience already knows the basics, and builds off of that to create dramatic tension that counterbalances the comedy and action.

All *pnish* plays are this way--this one just happened to be based on a real historical event :)

XD Wow. Damn, I can't follow that, and I'm not sure I have the inclination/time for the moment. But since it's supposed to be educational, try and ambush me about this again in the future, and I won't mind watching it _with_ you so you can explain things. ^_^

It does take more work than you should have to give to enjoy a play, especially considering that it's all in Japanese XD;;;

But definitely, we should set aside a couple of hours some weekend in the future and give it a go ^__^ It's really very funny, as *pnish* plays usually are, easy to follow, and hey--I learned something! ^_^
