He wished he had told her. They had gone out on a few dates a few times but nothing much had come of it. It wasn’t like he didn’t find her attractive or that she didn’t give him that look that women give when they want to you to come in for a little more then a night cap. It just never happened. He couldn’t tell you exactly why. He wanted to though. He wanted to so very much go into her apartment and show her how very much he liked her…how he could maybe even love her, but he never did. He just smiled and kissed her on the cheek and then went on his way. He wished he told her that, that day in the morgue even with his two best detectives there when she handed him the jar full of pee and asked him to smell it. He really wanted to tell her then.
He lost his chance, and now he would never get another. He knew that the minute he saw the gun. The second he heard the bullet. It was strange it wasn’t his life he saw flash in front of his eyes, it was her. It was the life he could have had with her, if he had gone into her apartment any of those times she wanted him to. Maybe things would be different. Maybe he would have told the FBI no. Or maybe he’d be leaving a widow behind instead of a medical examiner. He just really wished he had told her. It was the last thought he had before everything stopped. He wished.....
