Battlestar Galactica Series Finale Review

Normally I don't review episodes but since this is the final episode of arguably one of the best shows on tv today I will.

I can honestly say that I am very sad this show is over and that I have given this show way too much of my heart and soul. So now I am going to post my final thoughts and try to put it away so I don't go into a deep depression because I really did love this show.

So here are my final thoughts:

The show for me has always been about the characters and how they interact with one another not about spaceporn or battles, not that there's anything wrong with that. I just enjoyed episode where interaction between characters was the theme more then battles between human and cylons were. I know special effects were cool and everything but I liked the intrigue of who the final five were and the stories that went with the characters.

Ron Moore has said that he made things up as he went along (i believe sometimes drunk). So what? So they didn't have a clear plan. Battlestar Galactica, from start to finish is still the best show I have ever seen. Yes, there are a few bad episodes, but they are few and the good far outweigh the bad.

As for the finale. I thought it was good. It answered most of my questions. I liked the opera house reveal. I thought that was kinda cool. I liked that Sam ended up with Starbuck even if was "on the other side". I liked that Tory ended up paying for her sins and that Boomer finally did the right thing and stood her ground.

I liked the ending as well. I liked where everyone ended up. Even the notech ending fit. Technology played its part in getting them all into the mess so taking a step back might be what was in order. Besides something had to change. Why not go back a little? They had a home. Fresh air. A chance. Plus they were kinda running low on supplies anyway. The toothpaste line was funny and I think meant something. Toothpaste can't be the only thing they're running low on.

I like that Tyrol walked away from everyone. He had nothing left. No wife. No child. Why not go off by himself?

I liked that the Tighs finally had a chance to do things right. Ellen just wanted to be with her husband. Just them. No work. No job. Just them. And all it took was the destruction of two species to get that. Ellen has always been single minded in her pursuits its been Saul who has been of two minds. Duty and love. Now that he no longer has duty he can focus on love. Maybe they'll get it right this time.

I liked the ending of Roslin/Adama. Roslin had to die. I would have been upset if she had lived. She had been dying since day one. But I was glad she had lived to see NotEarth. Her death was sad. But I liked seeing both of their lives before they met and how things could have gone differently for them if they had made different choices. If Adama had chosen the private sector. If Roslin had chosen the Cougar route. I liked the sad and tragic that was their ending. It fit. And it was beautiful. Like they were from the start.

I liked the ending of Caprica Six/Baltar. Six always wanted to be proud of Baltar and she finally was. Baltar finally did something just because it was the right thing to do. I liked that he ended up the one thing he had always tried to avoid being, a farmer.

Honestly the only thing I am iffy about is the last ten minuets, but even that is still not enough to make me dislike the episode. I found the ending to have only a single message that even though things have happened before doesn't mean they have to happen again. In this complicated design we call life, there is room for surprises.

There is room for change.

We just have to want to change.
