howdy, folks. it's a tad bit late, but. welcome to the first ever femslash_today unporn battle. the rules are pretty simple, easy to follow and go as such:

Summer learned to shave her legs the summer between sixth and seventh grade. She and Marissa self-taught themselves, because it didn't seem like it would be that difficult. They're girls. They live in Newport. Shaving their legs should be, like, a natural instinct or something, like being able to predict a sale on Jimmy Choos and figuring how to tan the places between your toes.

Summer was good at it. Summer was a natural. But Marissa couldn't get the hang of it and kept cutting herself, and even though she didn't bleed a lot, Summer freaked out and called Julie Cooper, and Julie freaked out and there was talk about taking Marissa to the ER to get, like, a blood transfusion.

That was Marissa. She hurt herself even when she didn't mean to, and she just kept doing it, like she didn't know how to stop. Except she did, eventually, figure out how to stop. She died.

Marissa's dead.

She will never shave her legs again or watch The Valley or go shopping with Summer at Southcoast Plaza. She is Summer's best friend, and she will never, ever get to do any of these things again, which makes Summer feel like she shouldn't be able to do them either.

So she stops shaving her legs after Marissa's funeral and for seven days she doesn't put on makeup or paint her nails or do anything but cry, really. She lets Seth hold her and listens without hearing to him babbling about shiva and other Jewish things that Summer doesn't understand.

They sit Shiva for Marissa even though Marissa wasn't Jewish, and seven days later Summer's fingernails are chipped and her legs look like a forest but she doesn't care anymore.

She throws away the rest of her disposable razors.

This was sad, but good.

I liked how you described shaving as having to be a natural instinct. ^^

Sadly, shaving does not come as a natural instinct to me. There have been unfortunate accidents.

i don't even watch this show, as you know. in fact, i have never seen a full episode. but i know i like summer. and dude, SOUTHCOAST PLAZA! it's so bizarre to me that these childhood things are on tv! that like, everyone in the world knows about now! (though really, they would of course go to fashion island in newport over southcoast, but for all i know, they did. needless to say, summer isn't going to have to worry about places to shop.) anyway, you totally made my day with that. because i will be last minute christmas shopping with my parents in approximately . . . EXACTLY one month. ROCK ON.

though i do hope summer shaves her legs again. you know, as part of the healing process, or something. also? they so would have started shaving before then. they live at the beach! i started in between fifth and sixth grade, and . . . well, i did have to wear a skirt to school everyday. yay, catholic school girls!

She shaved her legs last week, but she can't seem to totally revert back to her shallow self. She's still trying to save the rainforests and advocating the use of solar power! The O.C. is SO AWESOME this year. I wish one of the prompts had been Summer/Taylor. That would've been SO MUCH FUN.
