march 2008 state of the comm.

first off, I want to extend a BIG thank you to ariestess, weirdofromafar and packtnredy8466 for updating femslash_today over the last three months, and for just generally being made of awesome. if you have a second today, drop by their journals and give them some comment love.

secondly, I want to apologize for being a missing moderator for the last several months. a new job, car issues and a death in the family gained up with other everyday rl issues to keep me away from the internet in the new year, and femslash_today suffered because of that. my apologies.

when I created femslash_today part of what I was looking to create - other than a way to bring girlgay to the masses - was a community where femslash fans could feel safe and supported and feel free to create and communicate in whatever way they wanted. I figured that having a place where you could get your hands on everything and anything related to femslash might go a long way toward creating that kind of comfort and community, and I think the last two years have proven me right.

way back in late 2005 when femslash_today was just starting out I never could have imagined it would grow to be such a well known and well read newsletter as it is today (I used to say we'd make it big if we ever hit 500 members - now we have more than 1,100!). in those early days I set up systems and routines for updating and maintenance that I thought would work well for a small, weekly newsletter. many of those same processes, albeit slightly modified, are still in use, and they are showing their age.

there's a good bit of rethinking and reworking that needs to be done in order for femslash_today to continue to grow and serve the wider lj femslash community, but I feel confident that it can all be done through your help and input.

so, I'd like to open the comments of this post up to you, the femslash_today readers. tell us what you love about f_t, what you hate about it. tell us what you'd like to see in the future, and what you could do without. give us your ideas, your praise, your concrit - whatever you have to say about femslash_today, say it here!

(there will also be a screened post for former and current volunteers at madeofgay early tomorrow morning, so if that applies to you, make sure you're still a member of the community and keep an eye out for the post.)
