Title: (Then There Were) Three.
Fandoms: RPFS/CSI: Miami/The West Wing.
Pairing: Emily/Calleigh/Ainsley.
Author Note: It occurred to me... I forgot about Ainsley *pets* For challenge #42, three. 250 words.

--

You think you might need to commit yourself somewhere with a padded room, because this is too much for any reasonable person to handle. It's one thing to sleep with a mirror image of yourself who shouldn't exist. It's beyond belief for her to turn up with a glittering smile and someone else you recognise.

"You won't believe who I mistook for you in the bar," Calleigh says as she enters the hotel room, shrugging out of her jacket. She beckons someone else inside and, when you see who it is, you feel your blood turn to ice in your veins.

This isn't possible. It isn't possible at all. You must be going crazy, completely insane, to believe that this is happening to you. All you can do is stare, because you already know what her name will be, even before she's introduced.

"This is Ainsley," Calleigh says, coming up behind Ainsley to wrap her arms around her and kiss her on the cheek. "She works for the White House, believe it or not."

"I used to," Ainsley corrects, examining you with familiar eyes. "Not anymore."

You stare at the two of them, two people you created, two people you know the life history of, and wonder what the hell you're supposed to do. Calleigh answers that question when she lets go of Ainsley, grabbing her by the hand to lead her over to the bed.

They sit down, one either side, and you know what's going to happen next.

Title: Three.
Fandom: She Spies.
Pairing: Cassie/DD/Shane.
Author Note: Also for challenge #42, three. 250 words.

--

DD isn't sure what possessed Cassie to invite Shane to join them when Shane caught them having sex in the kitchen, but she didn't object. She should have, and she wanted to, but she got caught up in a fantasy of what it might be like, and then before she really knew what was going on, she found herself in Cassie's bed.

Being in Cassie's bed is nothing new to her; the two of them have been together for nearly six months, keeping their relationship quiet to avoid problems with the others, but being in Cassie's bed with anyone other than Cassie is new to her, and she doesn't like it.

She loves Shane, but not the same way that she loves Cassie. She knows that Cassie doesn't love Shane the way she loves DD either. So she can't figure out what Cassie has up her sleeve -- when previously she's been furious at the idea of anyone else touching DD -- or why she started this.

She's up to something but DD can't tell what.

Shane kisses her and she kisses Shane back, feeling Cassie's fingers trailing temptingly lower. Tomorrow, when they all wake up and face the consequences, their team is going to suffer for it. DD can tell from Shane's kiss that this means more to Shane than it should and that can only mean trouble ahead.

Cassie's fingers lace with hers, squeezing reassuringly, and DD squeezes back, resolving to forget all her doubts until the morning.

Title: Change of Heart.
Fandom: CSI.
Pairing: Sara/Catherine.
Author Note: For challenge #43, more. 200 words.

--

"You need to understand," she says softly, staring at her hands as she twists them in her lap. "You didn't-- I mean-- this, this isn't anyone's fault. It's just… how I feel." When nothing but silence greets her words, she whispers, "I'm sorry," because she doesn't know what else to say.

"You have nothing to be sorry for," Catherine shrugs her shoulders and turns away so that Sara can't see her face. She ignores the tear that falls, unbidden, as she looks out of the window; the sunshine mocking her in what feels like one of her darkest days.

"Cat--"

"Sara, it's fine," Catherine says, and manages to brush the tear from her cheek without being seen. "We said this wouldn't be a long term thing."

Except Catherine herself managed to forget that conversation; let herself grow slowly secure in the relationship they developed. She knows what brought them both together -- unrequited love; hers for Warrick, Sara's for Grissom -- but she still doesn't know what it is that's kept them together this long.

Sara still loves Grissom. Catherine still loves Warrick.

Grissom didn't marry anyone. Warrick did.

She wants to (but won't) keep Sara out of jealousy.
