Summary: Different training sessions.
Both girls had different ways of fighting, as well, as training.
Katara had to control the flow, as well, as the direction of the stream of water. Not only that, but she would try to push and pull large amounts of water at a time, spinning her body around, the water dancing and flowing with, in time. Filling her body, veins and soul with it.
Suki, however, practiced with fans, to expertly open and close them quickly, to disarm an opponent using only the fan and just a flick of her wrist, without the need for her fingers. She would close her eyes and imagine being surrounded by faceless people, put one foot behind the other, catch them of guard, aim upwards, confuse them, and bam!, knock their weapon out their hand, and kick it away.
They be allies, but one could only wonder who would win in real fight.
