Kate smiles up at America, the curve of her lips pressed against the thin skin of America’s inner wrist. Kissing her there lightly, running her tongue over the slightly raised outline of the star tattoo. Her skin tastes different there, saltier, spicier, burst of warmth that seems to flow through Kate, all the way down her toes. When she closes her eyes, she can imagine the wash of that blue radiance across the back of her eyelids, the flare of America’s multiverse-hopping powers.
“Gonna light up for me?” she teases, opening her eyes when America flexes her hand into a fist, kissing the star again, mouth lingering.
America looks down at her, and she’s got her usual cocky smirk in place, but it’s softer than usual. Fonder, and her other hand brushes hair from Kate’s cheek.
“Always,” America murmurs, voice a little low, a little huskier than usual, and Kate’s eyes flutter shut again, pushing her forehead against the inside of America’s elbow. Shivering for the heat in America’s voice, and she’s already come to visualise love and contentment as a bright blue glow in the shape of a star.
