A/N: Takes place sometime after the series.
Isabel placed her hand over the newspaper and made the words ripple. They reshaped and blossomed with the colors that matched the snapshot in her mind. She shut her eyes and called to her memory for the details: the walls of the Crashdown, the elegant lines of their prom attire, and of course, Alex' smile. Everyone's smiles.
And there they were. The eight of them smiling up from the front page. Maria picked it up and drank it in with thirsty eyes.
"Isabel," she said, hushed. "Isabel, thank you."
Isabel could almost taste the dry Roswell air. She was caught up in nostalgia when Maria took her by surprise, grabbing Isabel's hand and closing it inside her own. And then, kissing it.
Isabel did taste dryness then, because her mouth was hanging open. She closed it. It was a very different feeling: having her powers revered instead of feared, for a change. It sent a streak of heat down her spine. It was good, but also strange, and her seat squeaked nervously as she fidgeted. Maria let resignation revisit her shoulders as she replaced Isabel's hand back over the photo. With an easy sweep, the faces sank away into nothing.
