Rachel glanced over at her sleeping passenger. It would just be a slight detour on the way to the hotel. This was the first time she’d been to L.A. She didn’t think they’d be chasing any fugitives out here any time soon.
And it had been a very long time. Not since… had Dani actually been the last time?
Dani Reese. The woman whose smile haunted Rachel’s dreams ever since they’d met at a conference for women in law enforcement last year.
She felt herself smiling in response to the image in her head.
“We there?” Raylan mumbled drowsily from the passenger seat.
“Wait here a minute,” she said, getting out of the car and heading toward a nondescript apartment building.
A few minutes later, Rachel opened the passenger door and handed Raylan the keys. “Pick me up here tomorrow at ten.”
