"How is this happening?" she wailed. "Why can't I synchronize?"
A gentle hand rested on her shoulder, a slight hand. Asuka's head jerked up and met albino eyes.
"Perhaps you no longer wish to synchronize."
"I do! I... I am the best! Only... only why can't I?"
"Perhaps," said Ayanami, "that is no longer what you wish to be best at."
Ayanami kissed her.
"Have faith," she whispered.
