I don't have any either. :( Alex needs more love. talkingtothesky June 9 2011, 09:04:15 UTC
I'm so glad you like that line, because it brought tears to my eyes to write it, just thinking about that scene. I've been dreaming of a fic like this since the ep aired but it's taken me this long to get to a place where I can write about it without feeling utterly destroyed.

Sam's enigmatic smile is his 'nah na nana nah' reaction condensed to fit into 200 words. *g*

As far as Gene being reunited with Sam in the pub goes, Coming Home by elamae is the first that springs to mind, but I'm sure there must be others as well. Those kind of fics were my lifeline after the show finished.

I adore Annie. Is it obvious? She's wonderful in every way.

THANK YOU for taking the time to respond to this in such a detailed and thoughtful way. When someone can write a comment that's longer than the original fic, you know you've done something right. XD

I love how much Annie represents safety and reassurance here, even though under normal circumstances she wouldn't know who Alex was. Sam's standoffishness is very like him, professional to a fault even when he really doesn't need to be.

And this has me aching for Alex all over again, but that's all right; it's a sweet pain.

Annie strikes me as more empathetic than Sam, even though he and Alex have shared the same experience. She realises that what's important here isn't their history together, it doesn't matter whether or not they've met before, what matters is that Alex has just been through something harrowing and she needs someone to tell her this isn't the end.

I was aiming for a bittersweet but also hopeful tone, I'm glad that seems to have come across. :)

Yes, this! Annie is exactly the sort of woman who would follow a man she's just met out on a ledge to bring him back, and hug the daylights out of a woman she doesn't know to bring her home.
