Challenge 268: Save (House, Masters/Hadley)

Summary: Masters doesn't do friendship, or anything else...
Notes: I just finished watching the latest episode and this prompt really fit. Major spoilers for last Monday's episode ("The Last Temptation") and the previous one.
"I saved her." Masters sounds determined, steely even, but Remy can see her shaking.
"And?" she asks.
"There shouldn't be any ‘and.' I should hold my head up high and go through life with the trust-"
"You sound like a television evangelist," Remy says.
"And you sound like House."
Remy sighs but doesn't deny it. She just reaches out and pulls Masters against her. Masters stands stiffly in her arms, like someone who has been asked to dance but doesn't know how.
"Just relax," Remy insists.
She shakes her head. "I can't. I haven't - I don't do friend... stuff. Or, um, anything else."
By the way the girl is stammering Remy knows she's "heard things" the way the rest of the hospital has. She's about to assure her that she isn't making a pass, and considers with amusement that she might as well. She's never met anyone who needed to get laid quite as badly as Masters.
"I was in prison," Remy whispers finally, surprising herself. "I euthenized my brother."
Masters tenses again.
"But it damn well wasn't because House would have done it. It was the right thing," Remy says.
Masters nods, and now they're almost cuddled together. "And I can keep doing the right thing," she says, her voice muffled by Remy's shirt. "Not House's thing."
"Yes."
"You're very warm," Masters says into Remy's shoulder.
Remy laughs. This girl really doesn't know how. But when Masters kisses her it makes sense, at least to one of them.
