Heartbreak. Nikki had suffered from it many times before, she knew the routine.
Wake up.
Cry.
Wander around aimlessly.
Cry.
Sleep.
Cry.
She swore she would never get involved with a straight woman again, but then Helen walked into her life, rather, she walked onto the wing, and Nikki's sense of judgement abandoned her. She let her guard down, let Helen in, let herself love again. Thinking back now, what a mistake that had been. She felt so stupid. Helen played with her heart. She was something new to experiment with, a toy she would discard the next time a handsome man walked her path.
Her heart felt like it had been stabbed so many times, one more plunge of the melancholic dagger may just be enough to push her over the edge. Was love worth all of this pain? Probably not, but even as she revelled in her loss Nikki knew if she had to play this all out again she would do it in an instant.
