Recap challenge: Water

Jun 08, 2010 21:50

Seska sat at the very edge of the riverbed, her knees digging into the mud. She knew that she only had precious moments to bathe before her Maquis cell took off again, but somehow, she couldn’t bring herself to step in the water. It didn’t matter anyway, she told herself. After all she’d done, she would never be truly clean.

Footsteps in the nearby brush startled her. In an effort to hide her nakedness from whoever was approaching, she quickly dove into the water, stirring up the silt at the bottom and creating a brown liquid that lapped at her collarbone.

“Seska? You here?” A familiar voice called her name.

“Yes,” she called back, “over here.” B’Elanna Torres, her section-mate and best friend traipsed over. Rivulets of water ran down her legs from under the fabric she had tied around her waist in a makeshift skirt.

They chatted for a while before B’Elanna left, frustrated. She did love Seska after all. But, she had no idea of the mutual feeling they shared. However, she allowed herself a slight smile as she walked back, thinking of the moment when the silt had cleared from around her friend and the water was crystal clear.
