The Power of Okay

Hey, Nancy.

Do you remember that day when it was just the two of us, no Bonnie or Rochelle, just you and me after school one day? You came over to my house and we made red velvet cake and drank two bottles of my dad’s cabernet between us.

We didn’t talk about Manon or witchcraft or even Chris that day. You told me how you lost your virginity to a guy in college when you were twelve years old.

“I can’t believe how dumb I was,” you said then you started crying. I told you that everything would be okay, that you were special and nothing anyone did could make you dirty or stupid. Then you smiled. Your mouth was bright red from the cake and the wine.

I told you everything would be okay.

I wish I could still believe that.

If I could I would use my magic to make everything all right, just like it was that day when it was just the two of us. Do you remember that day, Nancy? Do you remember anything but that you used to have all the power of Manon?
