Ripley had, just recently, acknowledged her feelings for the navigator--at least to herself, and she wanted the chance to admit them to Lambert.
Suddenly there was a squawk of sound from someone's suit mike, then the voice of Lambert complaining: "I can't see a goddamn thing."
