She called her Elphie again, her body arched by Idina’s tongue between her legs. Afterwards she sobbed her apology with her face pressed against the other girl’s neck. Idina winced but managed a smile, and swiped her hand across her skin, saying, “Your tears burn!”
Kristin looked at her, instead of keeping her eyes averted like she did during sex. “I’m sorry,” she said in that tiny voice that fooled everyone into thinking she had no power. “I just can’t.”
After she left, Idina realized this must be the punishment for love: doomed to stay in character, her name banished to the land of unreality and warm surrender.
