Olivia opened her eyes slowly, glancing at the bright 4:03AM glaring at her from her buzzing cell.
“What?”
“I can’t sleep,” Casey almost whined.
“So you want me to not sleep with you?”
Olivia almost smiled at the pause before Casey spoke again. “…well… if I say yes, will you hang up on me?”
Liv snorted and rolled over to mush half her face into the pillow. “You want me to be exhausted tomorrow too, then.”
“That didn’t sound like a question.”
“It wasn’t.”
“You can’t sleep either, can you?”
“Nope.”
“Good.” There were sounds of shuffling and rummaging on the other end of the line.
“What do you mean, good? This is the first time in a week I’m not catching two hours in the crib and you think it’s good I can’t sleep?”
“No, honey, of course not,” Casey cooed, pacifying the irritated detective. “It’s just good because I was going to come over there and not sleep with you.”
“Not sleep with me? I don’t know if I like the sound of that,” Liv murmured with a grin, hearing the ADA sigh.
“Is that all you think about?”
“Pretty much. Especially when I can’t sleep.”
Liv assumed the mumble she heard was supposed to serve as a response. She ran her fingers through her hair, musing. “I suppose I think of other things, too.”
“Oh yeah? Enlighten me.”
“You.”
And even halfway across the city, Liv was sure she could almost see Casey blush on the spot.
