A couple of drabbles

Title: Regional Differences
Prompt: #110, remainder; #105, accent
Fandom: WNBA (professional sports)
Wordcount: 100
Rating: PG
Pairing: Lauren Jackson/Sheri Sam, Seattle Storm and current Indiana Fever
NB: Presumably set during the 2004 season. People real, story fake, please don't sue, as always.

The Southerner speaks slowly, every word savored like honey in her mouth, and she only lets go of them reluctantly. It gets her a bad reputation, but she doesn't bother correcting the misperception.

The Aussie talks so fast that the words tumble over each other and slam together until half of the letters fall out. Somehow, no one notices that she's talked a lot but hasn't really said anything at all.

Somewhere in the middle, the honey and the quicksilver find a happy medium and blend together, and at that point, tongues have more interesting things to do than speak.

Title: Red Like a Rose
Rating: G, maybe PG
Fandom: NCAA women's basketball, St. John's Red Storm
Wordcount: 100 on the nose
Prompt: #110, remainder; #103, competition
A/N: The people are real, and so are the tattoos. The story, however, is fictional, and I mean no harm by it.

Monique knows she's lost when she sees the tattoo on Joy's shoulder and how it matches the one on Kia's arm. Matching roses, and after her tears, her eyes are red like a rose, redder than her road jersey and the ribbon in her hair. Of course she doesn't let anyone see her, even though Recee is way more perceptive than a freshman center should be. But she slips through the questions like evading a double-team in the lane.

The worst of it, Monique thinks later, is that Kia never even realized there was a competition in the first place.
