Common Ground

If you follow the twisting streets long enough, you will come to a certain café, one where the coffee is perfectly brewed and the cakes are baked fresh every morning. Today, the café is quiet, but there are two women sharing the table by the big bay window.
One is dark haired, dressed casually in black jeans, boots, a t-shirt. There is a silver pendant around her neck and her khol-lined eyes are half hidden by her wild, black hair. She leans her cheek on her hand, smiling and relaxed, sipping coffee as black as her clothes.
The woman sharing her table could only look more different if her clothes had been pink or yellow instead of black. This woman’s long skirts sweep the floor, and she wears a Victorian jacket buttoned over a lace bodice. Her shock-white hair is pulled back severely, but tightly curling tendrils escape from the grip of her hairpins, twisting around each other like snakes. She sits, straight-backed, in her chair drinking dark hot chocolate and watching her companion intently.
It’s not hard to tell that they’re a couple. You can see it in the way one reaches across the table to tuck a stray tendril of dark hair behind the other’s ear. The way the pale one blushes - a strange mark showing on her cheek - at the gentle teasing of her dark partner. The way the hold each others’ hands, meeting in the middle of their common ground.

I got the idea for this from a picture that Latin_Doll drew. It got me thinking: "But there are two lady deaths now, one who grew up immortal and is trying to understand humanity, and one who grew up human and is trying to come to grips with her non-human nature. I wondered what would happen if the met on the common ground of their shared experience. :-)
