“Don’t push me away, April!”
How many times had they had this argument? Maureen wondered as she chased April down the stairs. She was tired of the fighting, of hiding from Roger and Mark. But she loved April, she really did, and though tired, this wasn’t a fight she was ready to give up.
“It’s over Maureen.” April told her calmly.
“It doesn’t have to be. Just have some faith in us.”
“I don’t have any faith left.” They were the last words April ever spoke to Maureen.
Later, Maureen watched her own faith drain away with the bloody bathwater.
