Glinda had no idea why Elphaba had dragged her along on this foolish expedition. She never asked for Glinda’s input or her opinion on anything - not that Glinda could have ever expressed a preference, in any case, in regards to the dumps that called themselves ‘inns’.
By the end of the first week, Glinda was feeling painfully hard-done-by. Elphaba barely even acknowledged her existence beyond keeping to one side of the bed so that there was room for both. They rarely spoke, aside from muttered apologies when Elphaba awoke to find that she’d nodded off on Glinda’s shoulder once more. It would have sufficed, Glinda grumbled to herself with fond annoyance, if Elphaba had just brought along a pillow, and left her back at Shiz. Elphaba didn’t need her specifically - she’d probably only taken Glinda along so that she wouldn’t be able to tell tales when Nanny awoke that first morning to an empty bed.
That was, until they were faced with the Wizard, and Glinda, terrified, found that Elphaba was gripping her hand. Strong, impassive, solitary Elphaba was trembling and clinging to Glinda for support as she gathered up the courage to speak.
And suddenly, Glinda knew.
