“Are you okay?” Buffy asks as Faith frees her, reaching up and gingerly touching Faith’s bruised, bleeding cheek.
Faith grins as she presses a kiss into Buffy’s cut palm. “Five by five, B,” she answers without missing a beat.
“Faith, you don’t have to lie to me, you know,” Buffy grumbles, their earlier argument coming to mind.
“I’m not lying, B,” Faith argues as she sits her up on the altar, but then she relents. “I am five by five. As long as I’ve got you, I’m five by five and a Hell of a lot better than I’ve ever been without you.”
Tears touch Buffy’s eyes. “Really?”
“Yeah. That’s why I shove you off. Even my worst moods these days are nothing compared to the crap I used to live through every day. I’m pretty damn lucky these days long as I’ve got you.” She doesn’t ask for her forgiveness and won’t, but she sees Buffy’s already forgiven her from the look in her eyes.
They embrace. Faith kisses her forehead, then her lips. Her mouth lingers on hers for a long, passionate moment before she hears the enemy moving behind them. “Now let’s kick ass.”
“You bet,” Buffy says, laughing and grinning. She has just enough room between Faith’s toned legs and the altar to which she’d been chained to jump to her own feet. “Together!”
“Always!” Faith declares, popping Mister Pointy into Buffy’s hand and grabbing dual stakes in her own. “Let’s dust these bastards!”
