All she’s ever wanted is for someone to understand her. She’s searched for that person through the sleaziest dive bars in this side of the country and the deepest, darkest holes of life, but she’s never found anyone who reminds her as much of herself as the woman now constantly scrutinizing her every move. Alex Danvers is a hard woman to impress. Maggie knows she’s trying too hard, but she can’t seem to help it. She would do just about anything to hear the other woman praise her choices just once.
She stands after apprehending another villainous alien. She’s breathing hard and covered with sweat and blood, some her own, some not her own, but the perp is defeated. It’s her cuffs on his wrists; she’ll be the one hauling his purple ass into the DEO. He’s her catch.
She looks up into eyes that seem to constantly be telling her she can do nothing right. She looks across the distance separating them and feels like it’s so much longer than what it actually is. Then Alex starts walking toward her. Maggie can hardly breathe as Alex’s legs quickly eat up the distance separating them.
She stops right in front of her and smiles, her eyes actually shining with . . . pride? Maggie barely has time to wonder when Alex cups her hand around her neck and kisses her heatedly and hungrily. Maggie warms instantly. Alex still hasn’t said a word of praise, but this is the best praise she’s ever received!
