"I thought you were going to leave me there," the redhead murmurs into the blonde's hair as they travel together through the city on Batgirl's zipline.
Barbara glances at her, the true emotions in her eyes veiled by her lashes. She remembers telling her that women like her give women a bad name and calling her her sister. "Sisters never leave each other behind."
Ivy laughs, but the sound is dull. It sounds like the final laugh of a dying woman and sends chills racing down Barbara's spine. "We're hardly sisters."
"All women are sisters. Haven't your plants told you that? You always used to say how they've been around forever and seen us mammals grow. We all come from the same mother, if you trace our lineages back far enough."
"The woman who ate the forbidden fruit."
"Eve."
Ivy nods against her shoulder; Barbara looks down, wondering for the first time, in a long time, about Ivy's forbidden fruit. "What happened to you?" she asks softly again.
"Men happened to me," Ivy spits as they land in a park. "I could have taken them, you know."
"And killed them." Ivy steps away and stumbles; Barbara quickly wraps her back in her arms.
"Men have never been kind to Mother Nature," Ivy murmurs.
"Maybe it's time they start," Barbara whispers. This time, she refuses to let go. Ivy needs a garden in which to flourish and grow, and maybe, just maybe, Barbara can provide it this time before it's too late.
