Betty pauses when Veronica reaches over their text books without warning. "We're supposed to be studying," she says, but instead of anything Betty might have expected, Veronica gently lifts the glasses from her face.
"You should totally look into contacts," she advises. "The boys would go crazy over you if they could see how beautiful you are."
"I don't care what they think." Lowering her eyes, Betty blushes lightly. "I care what you think," she whispers as Veronica replaces her glasses just as gently as she first lifted them.
Veronica's fingers hesitate for a second on the blonde hair around Betty's ears. "I already know you're beautiful," she admits in a rush, and though the words are spoken rapidly, they're nonetheless true. She leans forward and kisses her, and Betty shuts her textbook. There aren't many things more important than making a good grade, but one of them is surely love.
