I'd make a deal with the Devil if it would get me to you, darling, or give you back to me, but you made your rules clear for your death. You told me I had to accept it. I can't. But you told me, too, that I can't force you back to me. We both know how Zombies go -- it never works out right -- so that's out, too.
All I have left is to spend my time on this Earth doing the best I can. You told me to be the best I can be, to keep fighting for our people, keep fighting for our kids and helping them where I can. Neither one wants me in their life still, but I do what I can. I do all I can.
You told me not to give up. I have at times, but every time I do, Irene, I see you again in my dreams. You're reaching for me, your beautiful eyesight restored, but you can't find me. You can't see me, because I'm not there. I haven't made it.
They say I'm on the wrong side. You made me into a better person, but I still can't be what others think I should. That never mattered to you.
I know I've got to keep doing what we see as right. I've got to keep fighting, and maybe, one day, baby, I'll get to hold you in my arms again. That thought is the only thing that keeps me living.
