She stares at the sky as if it might burst open with answers. It's been so long now, and she still spends every lunch break staring up at it, wondering where Sara has gone, and fearing she'll never see her again. Her cheek tingles with the memory of her caress as tears well in her eyes.
It's odd perhaps that she looks to the sky for answers. Sara didn't disappear into the sky. Lindsay's dealt with enough sick minds coming and going from this place to keep her from considering aliens. Aliens might exist; they might not. Regardless, Sara, who looked like the most beautiful human being Lindsay has ever encountered, was no alien. Her touch was real, the unshed tears she witnessed shimmering in her eyes when they parted genuine, her heart human.
Still, it doesn't keep her from watching the sky for an answer. With the advanced technology they used to save the boys, it's as likely a place to find her again as anywhere else is, which is why, despite the promise she made her, Lindsay hasn't dared leave Hope Falls. This is the only place where Sara knows she can find her, so she remains, hoping against fear and staring at the sky for answers.
Something cold touches her cheek. It's not Sara's touch -- it was many things but never cold -- but only a raindrop. Lindsay returns inside to her work, but she'll be back tomorrow night and every night, waiting for her heroine to return.
